Hot Newcomers on the Prague Sustainable Fashion Scene
Are you aware of the social and environmental costs of fast fashion but don’t know where to find better options? Same here! That’s why we started to do some more research into the topic and sure enough, a more conscious fashion scene is indeed germinating here in Prague. Even just this summer, three exciting new projects have emerged, which we think are great examples of how local entrepreneurs are stepping up to offer conscious consumers with better alternatives. While it’s just the beginning, the more we support such initiatives, the more they’ll be able to grow, improve and survive. Check them out!
1. Fresh Essentials: A line of locally made and organic men’s t-shirts for reasonable prices from well-known Prague boutique Fresh Labels launched on September 18th
“We do most things from the heart. We did this collection because we felt it and wanted to wear it ourselves. We have already sold a third of the t-shirts. We have lots of other ideas, but this is the first step.” – Jakub Veselský, co-owner
2. Bohempia: The first line of hemp clothing 100% processed, dyed and sewn in the Czech Republic opened their Prague 8 boutique in August
“Currently the only places where Hemp textiles are made are China and US, but there are many issues including the quality. They are also very far away. All of these issues are why I started my company. No one else is weaving, knitting and making hemp yarn in Europe. Hemp is thought of as something out of folklore, but I want to produce hemp clothing for everyday life.” – Tomáš Rohal, owner
3. 100 Class: a “slow fashion” boutique with all locally designed and made clothes, following a minimalist, less-is-more approach, opened its Prague 1 boutique at the end of July
“The concept is timeless fashion and products. It is simple and minimalistic so you can combine pieces for many occasions. All of the pieces have a story behind them.” – Vendula Stoklásková, owner
