JRK Waste Management was founded in 2009 and has since helped more than 500,000 residents and 450 municipalities in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary to better manage their waste.
Through their project “For less waste,” they are in particular trying to improve the management of organic waste. They are advocates of composting because of both its economical and environmental benefits. Composting stops organic waste from ending up in landfills, reducing the amount of CO2 that would otherwise be produced as a result (for example, through this solution, 360 municipalities in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary managed to save a whopping 7,846 307,461 kg C02 in 2014 and 2015).
Besides working with municipalities, they also operate the largest online store with composters and other related goods, in all three countries. In their e-shop you can find a wide assortment of high-quality composters, from super-speedy electric composters intended for smaller households larger scale garden composters. Their fastest electric composter can handle all types of food, even meat, and can break it down to compost in 24 hours – quite a feat compared to the months required for classic composting! In Prague, most of their composters can be found in private houses as well as some restaurants and schools.
“We believe impact is connected with business… No one is able to compete with the electric composters we sell, which work by a combination of temperature and mechanical rotation. On average, about 40% of waste is biowaste. But compost is actually not waste — it’s something useful!” – Mojmír Jiřikovský, co-owner
