Cesta Domů is a non-profit founded in 2001, with the aim of improving the quality of care for people who are dying in the Czech Republic. In addition to their core activities of offering a traveling hospice for the dying and working to reform Czech legislation, Cesta Domů also has a publishing house and offers two shops in Prague. Their shop in Prague 7 is a great place to learn more about the project from one of the volunteers, pick up some educational reading from the bookshop, or support the project by buying their t-shirts, recycled wrapping paper or other stationery such as notebooks, postcards, diaries. Half of the shop also serves as a second-hand bazaar, where anyone can bring their old belongings or buy pieces at very affordable prices.
“We are trying to be for people who just want to learn something — it doesn’t have to mean they are dying or know someone who is. There is a connection between life and the items in our shop. Recycling is really important: what goes on with our stuff when we die?” – Tereza Špinková, store manager
